What do professional organizers do?
A professional organizer is a coach for your house—someone who can help you define what you want out of your home, choose the items that are important to you, and help you decide where those things go to get the most out of your space. We help you make decisions, easy ones and hard ones, about what to keep and what to donate, and we are with you every step of the way as you change your house to accommodate your life. We combine cheerleading, space planning, and accountability while we also help you physically and emotionally change your space.
How does the organizing process work?
We start with an initial consultation with you, where we meet and tour your home and discuss your goals as well as what is/is not currently working for you. Then we create a work plan for you that we mutually agree on, and then begin our work! We might start with a small area of your house so you can start to feel better quickly—or if you wish, we can start with your biggest obstacle so you can see organization happen more quickly. We tackle your problem areas in your home together and create a better, happier space. I also promise we have plenty of fun along the way.
Will my sessions be confidential?
Absolutely! I never share any information about a home or a client with anyone else. This process is different for everyone—some people want to shout it from the rooftops that they’re working with an organizer, while others prefer to keep it a secret from everyone. Whatever your choice is, I respect it entirely!
Will you make me get rid of my things?
A true professional organizer never “makes” a client get rid of ANYTHING. This process helps you define what you need and want in your home, and you might decide along the way that you can donate or discard many of the things that are in your house right now. I help you do that—but I never force you to do anything in your home. It is your home, and they are your belongings. You get to choose! I will always help you think about the different considerations on keeping vs. discarding an item if you need help, but I will never make you do anything!
What if I'm the worse case you've seen? I'm so embarrassed!
One of the biggest things a professional organizer brings to the table is a non-judgmental state of mind. The only thing I care about is achieving YOUR goals. It doesn’t matter to me what your home looks like currently— what matters to me is getting to your end goal of an organized home. You never, ever need to be embarrassed with me. I am like any coach or trainer you might hire—my job is to make you better. The starting point isn’t a place we will stay for very long!
Do I need to be present during the sessions?
Yes!! The best results are achieved when we work together on your home. I work with people to achieve lasting change—and that change comes when you are involved in all the decisionmaking. Plus—working together, we get your house organized much faster than if I were doing it alone!
How long will it take?
This is the hardest answer I ever have to give, and one I get asked every time! This depends on a lot of different factors—how many things you have in your house, the size of your home, how easy or hard it is for you to make decisions...all sorts of things go into the length of time it takes to finish your home. What I can promise you is that we will work very hard to be as efficient as possible and get your house organized as quickly as we can. I recognize that this is an investment of time and money for you and I take that very seriously!
What are the benefits of getting organized?
There are so many great things about becoming organized, it’s impossible to list them all. What I can tell you is that my past clients tell me how much less stress their lives have, and how much better they feel when they walk through the door. Reducing the feeling of being overwhelmed by clutter— and knowing how to keep up your newly organized home to keep that great feeling—is what most of my clients say is the best part. Decluttering and organizing helps both mental and physical health—and improves your quality of life. There is research that we lose up to a year of our lives looking for lost things—imagine if you got that year back to do fun things! THAT is the benefit of organization! TIME!
How much does it cost, and how do payments work?
My packages are listed here. You have two payments—one, 50% down to book your session, and the remaining balance is due 24 hrs before we start working.
Do I have to buy new organizing products?
I know lots of people love going to shop for organizing products—but I don’t have you buy anything before we start, until we know what we truly need. If there is something I think would genuinely help you keep up an organized home, I will recommend products to you—but it is up to you on whether you purchase them. With many clients we find solutions for organizing that already exist in your home, but some clients prefer to keep up their new house with some fun new supplies. We will work together on this for you!
Which spaces of the home do you organize?
If it’s a room in your home, I will organize it! I will even organize your outdoor spaces if you need it! There is no part of your home that I shy away from helping with, so let’s see it all and tackle it together!
What makes you different than other organizers?
The most unique quality I have is that I understand the concept of TRANSITION. As a military wife, I have moved 14 times in 20 years, and in the past, I have worked with very ill patients in a hospital setting—so I understand the challenges of life transitions. Even if you are not experiencing a major transition—organizing can bring up a lot of emotions, and I’m prepared to handle every one of them! I have a lot of unique qualities I will bring to your home, but one other thing I think is important is that I promise to make this hard work FUN for us. Organizing can be hard work, but I always work with my clients to make the experience enjoyable!
Should I tidy up before you come?
Would you change the oil in your car before you took it to the shop? Nope! Please don’t tidy up before I arrive—it helps me to see your home in its everyday shape so I know what your goals are and how I can help you achieve lasting change!
Will you take donations for me?
Yes—I will take items that I can haul in my vehicle away to the donation spot of your choosing. If you have larger items or something unusual we can discuss it on a case by case basis.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. Your deposit is non-refundable once you pay. I do understand that emergencies happen—you can reschedule due to extenuating circumstances one time but after that your down payment is forfeit. I ask for 48 hours advance notice of any rescheduling. My calendar is very full, so when you secure a spot I am committing to you, and I want you to commit to yourself and to the process as well!
